Engaging Ethnic Media to Inform Communities about Safe Sleep
Media outreach can be one of the most cost-effective ways to educate people about sudden unexpected infant death and safe sleep. Nearly half of African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian-American, Native American and Arab-American adults 29 million Americans prefer ethnic television, radio or newspapers to their general market counterparts. Join the National SUID/SIDS Resource Center Consortium for a Webinar to explore outreach strategies discussed in its new toolkit, €œEngaging Ethnic Media to Inform Communities about Safe Sleep. This Webinar will feature ethnic media outreach experts outlining best practices that will help community health providers engage ethnic media to effectively reach those audiences most at risk for SUID.

Pregnancy is not simply an isolated event or time period in a woman€™s life. It is influenced by a myriad of contextual factors that occur years before, as well as immediately before and during the pregnancy. As a part of the continuum of a woman's life, and the contextual factors within that continuum, pregnancy itself has a major impact on future health risks for the mother and the baby as well. Understanding the import and influence of a womans health risks and across the reproductive decades on future pregnancy risks and outcomes is key to ensuring that the health of women is optimized, as well as that of future generations.

She has continued to work at the state and national level on various issues related to health care policy, with a special focus on women's health. She earned her Master's in Medical Law from the University of Glasgow School of Law in Glasgow Scotland in 2011, where the focus was on the intersection of law and medical ethics. Her thesis centered on issues around informed consent and the burgeoning growth of biobanking for research and clinical trial purposes. She served as a Professor in the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Texas Houston Medical School and worked at a major county hospital in Houston Texas that serves as a training site for residents, students, and Fellows.
